QT To Retire In 2020?
Quentin told the crowd at London’s Empire Awards (where he was being honored as ‘Film Icon of The Decade’) that he plans to retire in 15 years (another version of the same story) and become a simply theatre manager.
What kind of confuses me here is – what ‘decade’ is QT being honored for? Over the past 10 years, he has only released Jackie Brown and Kill Bill – certainly good stuff – but best of the decade? I’m not sure thats enough work over that time period to be considered for such an honor.

I am afraid that Quentin is extremely lazy. Not that there is anything wrong with that from his standpoint (not mine)….

At the same event Quentin also said that his next film would be inglorious bastards and that he is currently at the beginning of writing the script. I thought he was doing a mandarin kung fu movie first! Does this guy change his mind all of the time? Not that i mind, id prefer to see Inglorious bastards made anyway. Especially if he only has 15 years before retirement lol

i think the icon of the decade award was given because he really stands out in this decade (the middle 90′s up until now). his films obviously stand out and even him. he may not have too many films under his belt, but they made some big time impacts.
he’s basically become a household name and it all happened so fast.
but i think nowadays when a lot of people think movies, im sure tarantino pops into their minds. and for some… their only definition of a movie is if it’s made by tarantino. it’s all about impact and the giant mark you leave on the world, i think.

Its amusing how so many people say he is lazy because he hasnt made many films but making films is an extremely hard task and in addition think of people such as Sergio Leone, he only made 5 films but he doesnt get called lazy…

Life sucks. First the Friday the 13th rumor is completely smashed to pieces ( which for some people is a good thing ), but even worse we only have Quentin until 2020. While that 15 years may seem like a long time, since he only does one film every 3 or 4 years at a time, that means we would only get 4 or 5 more Tarantino films. If he retires in 2020, he will be 56. ( Correct me if I am wrong ). 56 is still a young enough age to have a lot of films left. Look at Spielberg. He is getting old and going as strong as ever. So I hope he changes his mind and keeps making movies past 2020!

why would you want someone to keep creating work if their heart isn’t there?
his movies are incredible, but if quentin knows when to stop, more power to him. i definetly wouldn’t want him to fake shit, or keep making stuff, just because fans want him to…

Of course I would want his heart to be in his work if he continues to make movies after 2020, but I believe his heart WOULD be in his work after 2020, just like it is today. He is smart enough to make good movies late into his life ( if he wanted to ) without losing passion or ” faking shit. “

It seems to me like the best reason that you would give Quentin such an award is how imitated his style became after Pulp Fiction. Even if he hasn’t been so prolific, his pop-culture pastiche style of filmmaking has defined a lot of the films that came after it with its influence.

QT is a nice director but over rated, Pulp Fiction was a rip off The Killers, Kill Bill has been going on in Japan forever.
