UPDATE: As expected, this story is false.

There is a news report that Tarantino will direct a Jimi Hendrix film. There is even a Dragonslayer Films press release announcing QT’s involvement (copied below).

I’m highly skeptical of this announcement for lots of reasons, not the least of which is the mention that QT is “currently working in China on Kill Bill 3″ in the press release. We know that isn’t true – which either means that the person writing the press release is full of shit about the whole project, or just doesn’t have a clue about what Quentin is working on and tried to guess.

I’m guessing the whole story is bogus, but I could be wrong.

Infamous, music loving director Quentin Tarantino (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill 1 & 2, and currently working in China on Kill Bill 3) has signed on to direct Dragonslayer’s first major feature, the Jimi Hendrix story. Scripts are currently being worked on, and Tarantino will have full access to Hendrix’s music, likeness, and brother Leon to tell the real shocking story. Shooting is scheduled to begin later this year with outdoor shots in Seattle, New York, and London, and interiors in Toronto. Elle Von Lear, Senior Executive producer, has access to over 350 interviews filmed by Emmy Award Winning film maker David Kramer, as well as a large body of live footage of the artist, to be incorporated in the film. The Aleem brothers, twins who performed on all of his three albums at the Electric Lady Studios, and Juma Sutan, are consultants on the film.

Thanks to Scott for alerting me to this story.
