QT Presents… Dragon Dynasty
Former Miramax gurus, the Weinsteins are starting a new label called Dragon Dynasty [thanks to James for the heads-up] to release a bunch of Asian films in the US market – with Quentin Tarantino’s help of course. So don’t be suprised when you see a whole slew of ‘Quentin Tarantino Presents…’ titles over the next couple of years. The first batch of rumored films to be released includes:
ONG BAK 2, TOM YUN GONG, SPL, SEVEN SWORDS, BORN TO FIGHT and DRAGON SQUAD.

Doesn’t Tom Yun Gong have Tony Jaa though?

Yes it does, but I have no idea what Tom Yun Gong is about.

I have seen “Tom Yum Goong” in Spain, where it has been released in Cinemas, and I must say that it’s a better film than “Ong Bak”. If you liked this one, you’ll be crazy with “T-Y-G” (the title does reference to some kind of Thai food). It has even more and better action scenes and the climax is da bomb.

Hopefully Tarantino will influence this properly as until recently the Weinsteins were one of the worst possible things to happen to foreign films, especially Asian. Typically they would buy up the North American rights and then sit on the film without releasing it, often to make a crappy American version first, and when it was released (if ever) they were often only available in an edited, dubbed version. Apparently some of the guys from Hong Kong Legends are also involved in this though and that’s exactly what we need. It’s always been a shame that they don’t release in Region 1.
