Why Mickey Rourke Missed Grind House
In an interview with Mickey Rourke, Radar asked him about why he didn’t end up in Grind House. His answer doesn’t clear much of anything up:
Radar: After turning down Pulp Fiction, why did you pass up the opportunity to work with Tarantino on his latest project, Grindhouse?
Rourke: You know what? He hasn’t made any comments about it. And until he makes a comment about it, I’m not going to say anything. It just didn’t work out. And I hope that’s what he has to say. I’m just going to wait.
Seems to me that Mickey is pissed off at Quentin.

The problem is that Rourke was Tarantino’s diamond in the rough. He was saving Rourke for that role in IB. But KB I and II came up and during that time Rodriguez snatched him up, and now Rourke isn’t that appealing to the big T. Personally, I like Russel in the role anyway. I think Rourke looks a little crazy with all the plastic surgery he’s gone through. Perfect for sin city chasracter though.

I have no idea what it means. Maybe they just couldn’t agree on the character.
Mickey’s the MAN.
Kurt’s cool. Hopefully QT and Mickey will be able to do soemthing down the line.

I’m totally happy with Kurt in the role. Whoever QT works with he brings the best out of them. Maybe QT had another one of those Warren Beatty/David Carradine situations and decided Kurt was better. I think Mickey is an easy choice. Having Kurt (who’s basically your All American good guy) playing a serial killer who drives a muscle car is a real twist. I like it alot. Its like when Leone picked Henry Fonda (the All American good guy of his day) to play the psychotic bandit Frank in Once Upon A Time In The West.

Fonda was great in that. That’s a fave of mine.

If you look at the paragraph or two before the one Bret posted you can see Mickey says that HE chose not to do Grindhouse. Dumb move.
