Tarantino was awarded the ACE Golden Eddie filmmaker of the year award.
The board of American Cinema Editors (ACE) called the Pulp Fiction director “a true visionary” when they announced he was to receive the gong, reports Variety.
The statement added: “His rich and original body of work represents the best that our creative community has to offer.”
The NY Times has a big article on GRINDHOUSE up today. I don’t have time to read it just yet, but thought I’d just throw the link up.
Ain’t It Cool got hold of a new (UPDATE: as clarification, this is unofficial) GRINDHOUSE poster.
Theatrical Release Date: April, 2007 (planned)
Trailer: So far, just for the Rodriguez portion plus some of the fake trailers.
Companion Book: Grindhouse: The Sleaze-Filled Saga of an Exploitation Double Feature is set for release in February, 2007.
Synopsis: A ‘shared’ movie with Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Sin City) where both Robert and Quentin are creating independent 60 minute films that will be shown together under the Grind House name.
Rodriguez portion is a zombie-based movie called Planet Terror. Tarantino’s segment is called Death Proof and according to QT is “sort of a slasher film, but instead of a knife, it’s a car”.
The film will also include fake movie trailers between the two features including a blaxploitation trailer, a kung-fu trailer, a spaghetti-western trailer, and a sexploitation trailer for a fake film called Cowgirls in Sweden.
The title of Grind House is a tribute to the old, big-city movie houses like those on New York’s 42nd Street that became known as grindhouses for showing genre pictures back to back.
Primary Cast: Kurt Russell, Naveen Andrews, Rose McGowan, Rosario Dawson, Tom Savini, Zoe Bell, + more.
Tarantino’s Input: Writer, director and producer for his half (Death Proof).
Posters: We’ve got a script cover plus 3 promo posters
Not sure if I’ve mentioned it here before, but Rob Zombie is making one of the fake trailers for GRINDHOUSE – and its called Werewolf Women of the SS, and courtesy of Menno here’s a still from the trailer.
And a description:
This photo is of Sheri’s character “Eva Krupp” from the trailer, which will be about 3 1/2 minutes long… This photo shows only one of 3 beautiful costumes that Sheri will be wearing in the short
You can see the entire image here or you can find it in the Sheri Moon Zombie blog.
Anybody wanting some attention from Tarantino or Rodriguez as a filmmaker ought to enter the SWSX Grindhouse Trailer contest.
Filmmakers have a deadline of February 12 to submit their ‘grindhouse trailer’ (no longer than two minutes in length) to SXSW. The trailer should be made for a fictional feature-film, just like those being made by celebrity directors Eli Roth and Rob Zombie for Grindhouse. From those submissions, Rodriguez will determine the best of the bunch, and it will screen during a special presentation entitled ‘Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse 101′ on Sunday, March 11. During the presentation, Rodriguez will share stories and footage from the making of the upcoming Dimension Films release.
Get on it. You’ve only got till February 12th.
Thanks to Joe for letting me know that Latino Review has a script review of the Planet Terror portion of GRINDHOUSE up today. Here’s the bottom line:
Wow! It is that fucking good. Hence, why I gave it an A+ because it is a complete miracle. There is a structure, there is a character arc, there is some setup/payoff action going on with the dialogue. The writing is super clean and lean and it is a good story that’s well told. Nuff said.
