GRINDHOUSE DVD Details
Some bad news (maybe) about the DVDs for Death Proof and Planet Terror. According to The Movie Blog, neither will contain any of the fake trailers that aired with GRINDHOUSE in theaters.

god damn it is there anything we can do to convince them to release them both as one dvd with the traiers as we saw them and enjoyed them so much in the theater even though it didn’t do well there are still plenty of people whom did see them and loved them as they were and those people want to own the entire grindhouse experience on DVD

Umm how is it “screwing” when its 2 movies in the first place? Its not a “double feature” for nothing. Its not QT and RR both directing a movie called Grindhouse. They both did there own thing so now its time for the to release them seperate. Youre just mad cause you need to spend double of what you thought. Boo hoo you wont miss the extra 20 bucks you spend.

Yes it is QT and RR directing a film called Grindhouse. It is one film containing two stories.
I want Grindhouse the way I saw it in the theatre.

Theres Grindhouse which is one experience, then theres the two distinct films: Death Proof and Planet Terror.
We will get both separately then maybe in 3 or 4 years we’ll get the Grindhouse 4 disc set with the original theatrical experience.

Does anyone know why they are releasing them as seperate DVDs anyway?
Why do it this way as opposed to the way it was released in theatres?
Just curious to know why they are splitting them up.
Grindhouse didn’t do all that well at the box-office anyway, why not release it to the fans the way it was originally presented?
You can tell that I’m crushed by this news.

Id actually rather get them separately for now. I really only want Death Proof on DVD anyway. Im not much of a fan of Planet Terror or Rodriguez.

You want to reason James? That would be MONEY! The Weinsteins are greedy bastards who just want more of a profit and don’t care if that means splitting up the grindhouse experience for fans. I will wait for the special edition with both films and the trailers.

you’re going to be waiting a long time then i would imagine. i bought kill bill 1 and 2 knowing full well it would be released in it’s uncut, unedited glory, so it’s obvious i’m going to buy both grindhouse features and still buy them together in the future. why wait? sell the old when the new roll in

I believe that these films will work better this way. I enjoyed the whole experience of Grindhouse many times in the theater but, was well aware that the fun gimmick would be lost in a home viewing.

However, I do hope that the trailers are added. Maybe an appropriate “fake” trailer for the other film (Planet Terror trailer on the Death Proof dvd, etc). If they don’t include the Thanksgiving trailer on either one, I’ll be pissed.

I’d have to agree with those of you who think Tarantino and Rogriguez should put both movies into one case.
It makes total sense when you think about it. That’s what the “grindhouses” were all about. Double features with the purchase of one ticket. It doesn’t matter if he wants to charge $20 or more for the movies, they should be packaged together.
He’s losing the charm of what a grindhouse is by selling both movies separately.

Ya, just because you are watching them at home doesn’t take away from the Grindhouse experience. They were meant to be together, plain and simple. It wasn’t just a “fun gimmick.” Ask QT and RR what they think about the split up, I would love to hear what they say.

QT said at Comic Con these films were their next official films and could/should be played separately as well as in the double feature format. The Grindhouse thing was great but unless they can fit all of the stuff on one disc, theres no point in getting all upset about the separate releases.

Actually, GH, the whole bloody, octane ride, is rumored to be released on DVD in June 2008.

DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you shoulda released the movie GRINDHOUSE in all its origonality with the preveiws and same old stuff and then realeased the special edition one that has no preveiws and is all special editioned up.

I don’t see how both films are going to be split up. Marley Shelton’s character as well as Michael Park’s, Earl McGraw, are both in Death Proof… so how is someone who has no clue to these characters, get into the backstory of Planet Terror, without Planet Terror? Same thing in Planet Terror, the mentioning of Jungle Julia on the radio is heard as a memorial shout-out. Don’t seperate art that was created as a whole, split the dividends WEINSTEINS!!!

Even though Grindhouse didn’t work financially i will not buy these two movies seperately. Quentin needs to wise up and release both of these as a Special Edition with faux trailers and the missing reels that were obviously cut from the theatrical release for ratings reasons. I really want to see the table dance scene in Death Proof. There are alot of fans who want these movies together even if you have to do it as a dual disc and flip it over. Give the fans what we really want!!!
