Inglorious Bastards, Maybe Not Next
An interview with Quentin from Event Guide that turns out to be not good news for those (like me) wanting to see Inglorious Bastards anytime soon.
“I’ve got this Word War Two script I’m working on called Inglorious Bastards, which has been around for a while, and it’ll be the biggest thing I’ve ever done. I probably have another year of writing on that left. I can’t say it’s going to be my next movie because I have to finish the script, and I have to like it, but it’s what I’m working on.”

I bet he will die in a freak car accident or something and he will die before this film ever gets made. The Dirty Dozen remake will get to theaters years before this ever does. Such bullshit…

Actually, the more I think about it, I wonder if QT is done with the script; finished with it. And since it is his biggest project ever (his Mount Everest as he says) and will take a long time to cast and shoot, I wonder if he just wants a break after writing, directing, and promoting Death Proof which has to be slightly disappointing for him due to the U.S. box office gross. I could see him sitting on the finished script, taking a year off to do nothing, and then shooting it late next year when he is good and rested for a 2009 release.

Maybe he has to pull a Kevin Smith and make a lower-budgeted film to recoup the losses from his recent box office failure, then come back and tackle a larger budget. Seriously, why would the Weinsteins give him such a huge, magnum-opus amount of money right after what Grindhouse did?

Why would the Weinstein’s give him a lot of money?
…Maybe because they owe their very careers to him, and are willing to take chances?
Maybe because Tarantino has made them more money than any other director has made any other producers, and one box office failure (Which may or may not make a killing on DVD) does not dissolve that truth?
Maybe because they have faith in him as an artist?
Tarantino isn’t some Hollywood pretty boy. Gossip bullshit doesn’t apply to gifted, popular directors like it does to flavor of the week pop stars. Every great director has had a few box office flops.

Dude, this movie will never be made. As long as it takes QT to make anything, we’ll be lucky to see anything from him in next 5 years.
Most directors will have like three projects done, before we see just one from “Mr. Slowass” QT!

I wouldn’t mind seeing Inglorious Bastards as a trilogy. He’s already said it’s his spaghetti western, and the most famous spaghetti westerns are the Dollars trilogy.
There’s a place for 8 hour films and they have succeeded in the past, but it sounds like a very hard thing to sell to the impatient American public, who thought that getting two movies for the price of one was a sour deal.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they release it as 3 movies. This way the Wein$tein$ can release 3 seperate poor quality DVDs and then double dip (as usual) by releasing it all in one bonus set.
With that aside, I don’t see this film getting made anytime soon for a few reasons:
1) QT works extremely slowly. Most directors at least double, if not triple, his output of films.
2) QT can’t ever seem to focus on one film for an extended period time. Do you remember the period before Death Proof? He alternated between a Kill Bill sequel, a Kill Bill prequel, an anime Kill Bill film, Inglorious Bastards, the Vega Brothers, a Mandarin Kung Fu film, and Friday the 13th; all as his “next film”. Talk about ADD!
3) The Weisteins may not be willing to give QT the big money needed for this film after the Grindhouse disaster.
4) QT’s script is way too big and editing it down to a more reasonable size will take time, especially when reasons 1 & 2 are taken into account.
5) The updated remake of The Dirty Dozen is being made and will be released before IB. The storyline is pretty much the same. The audience might be rather tired of the formula by then; or the Weinsteins may push it back to make sure the films don’t clash with each other in the box office.

it amazes me how people complain when all these wonderful movies we have been enjoying for years came out of his mind. just as people called kill bill part two horrible and I thought it was alot better than part one the subtle humor showing the versatility of the actors and great style that you just had to look a little bit deeper in to the second movie than the first and I suspect the same will go with this movie it will be done when it’s done and I for one could waight a lifetime to see another quality film like pulp fiction I say take your time and people should stop whining. thanks Quentin for all the years of wonderful movies.

We actually don’t have to worry about that Dirty Dozen remake after all. I hear that it is set in modern day. So no WWII stuff. And it didn’t get a good script review, although it is being rewritten right now, so although it may improve, it is still set in modern times and not WWII like Inglorious Bastards will be.

I think Quentin T. should throw the idea of Inglorious Bastards into the thrash can, sorry.
He needs to scratch his head and pump out his most original script ever, and not this remake cum homage, just something very fresh is needed now.
Today, already we have the original and best “Inglorious Bastards” on DVD (Enzo. C ‘s cult masterpiece) and of course there is the big budget Hollywood remake of “Dirty Dozen” coming in 2008.
Mr. Tarantino needs fresh material and new stories, I’m afraid but can he do it?

Oh well, I just hope he gets something out soon, there’s no good films out there anymore. I hope he goes back to his old days of writing (i.e. Pulp Fiction, From Dusk ‘Til Dawn, etc.). Kill Bill is great, but it doesn’t compare to Pulp Fiction though, although it is an awesome movie though. I love QT’s style.

Easy on the QT put-downs, the man is a genius after all who gave us True Romance and Pulp, the next QT must see is on the way and it’ll be well worth the wait… RD

I’ve never seen so much bashing of Quentin on one of his own sites. Why are people even on this if they are going to bash what he does. Who cares how long it takes him to put out a new movie. At least you know when it comes out it’s going to be good quality film making. I’m just grateful to live during his career to see all of his masterpeices first hand.
And all the people who diss death Proof, you people are crazy. QT is genius. Look at Stanly Kubrick…he only made 12 films in his whole career, but you dont see people talking about it. I say just let him work, and when the movie is released you’ll be so excited that it’s out you won’t even think about it. Just Enjoy it.
