Tarantino Promises Inglorious Bastards in 2009
Tarantino is making very public promises to finish Inglorious Bastards. At the Cannes Film Festival, he told the audience he would have the film ready for the 2009 Festival. Here’s the money quote from the video linked above:
“The next movie I’m doing is my WWII movie Inglorious Bastards. I actually just finished the first draft of the script and when I go home I’ll be finishing it up … and if all goes well… I will be here 2009 at Cannes with my war film Inglorious Bastards.
Lots of folks are skeptical about that date – even making references to the long-ago promised Chinese Democracy album from Guns N Roses.
Personally, I think there’s no way in hell it’ll be ready by this time next year – it still has to be cast, filmed and edited. If QT is really done with the script, 2010 is more likely.

Haven’t we been told that this is going to be a three-part epic? Six hours long? Translating to nearly a four-hundred page script?
As much as I want to believe that this is true–believe me, nothing in the movie realm would make me happier–there’s no way in hell it’s possible. Even an “Inglorious Bastards: Part One” would be difficult to imagine by then. If the script is only past the first draft…eh. Take this with a big ol’ bag of salt, ’cause it’s not happening.

One of Tarantino’s heroes, Takashi Miike, makes about three or four movies a year on average. But… Tarantino is not Takashi Miike. Tarantino makes a movie every three or four years on average.
I doubt he’ll have it ready in a year, but I’d like to think that this at least means we’ll see Bastards start filming before 2010.
