Inglorious Bastards – Another Split Film?
Here we go again. AICN is reporting that Inglorious Bastards will be 2 films [thanks Andrew].
I really hated the idea of splitting up Kill Bill into two movies, but as it turned out, I liked the result. The whole flavor of Kill Bill 2 was very different from Kill Bill 1, so the split worked.
But I just don’t like the trend that I’m seeing. Kill Bill – split. Grindhouse – split. Inglorious Bastards – split.

I don’t mind splitting a film because of the length. Kill Bill as one film would have been REALLY long. Grindhouse however, should have never been split. The run time was very tolerable (as anyone who saw it in theaters knows) and the only reason for that split was more money (i.e. greedy douche bags). So if they split Inglorious Bastards because it is over 5 hours or something, I totally understand. But if they pull a Grindhouse and do it for the money then I would be pissed.

The reason for the split was that the movie lost money in the US. I still think they should’ve stood behind the double feature and tried to make their money back on DVD, though.

I actually don’t mind splits because once I’ve seen one part, I have something to look forward to with the next part. Kill Bill being split was actually enjoyable to me.
This is the reason I don’t look at it as double-dipping, same with the Kill Bill DVD release.
To each their own, I suppose.

It’s obvious to the distributors and producers we’re gonna pay to see parts one and two of any Tarantino movie, and thus we get a 5 hour movie split into two. His name alone will sell the movie of course.
Also, I too don’t like this trend and feel it’s us being exploited by the producers of an exploitation movie. And, as much as I’m a fan of QT I hope he returns to better form than the past offering. I find carrying on another movie where it left off pushing it a bit.

a. they only split up grindhouse into 2 film because…well…it was 2 films, numbnuts! Tarantino only did one of the films!
b. If the man’s scripts are too long and need to be split up into 2 films, it ain’t his fault, man. The guy can’t help but make long-@$$ scripts.

Anne Thompson spoke to QT recently and he told her hes aiming at a Pulp Fiction length running time. I think it was 154 Min.

I wouldn’t mind to get two movies of the same movie if they are released relatively fast- that way you get more Tarantino until the next fix (he takes a long time to make films- which has been a good thing so far)
He has done it once, why not do it again? Maybe it’s a bit rehash? Tarantino has his trademark things in all movies and it’s not rehash. He split “Kill Bill” and it worked, I bet it will work again.
I would still prefer a single long max. 160 min. movie because if he needs more time to tell something meaby he should move on to television for a while which he has already done with “C.S.I”.
Movies are ment to be stand-alone. Today it’s hip to make movies in television form. They don’t tell the whole story, only chapters of it. It’s a completely different than sequal. For example, the James Bond- movies, they are all stand-alone and don’t really connect to each other apart from slight references.
“Casino Royale” will have a next chapter with “Quantum of Solace”. It happens an hour after Casino with Bond mourning over the loss of Vesper etc. etc. Thats some of the movies of today- following tv’s fame with continuos programs. “Kill Bill” is like this in a way, even if the LotR movies opened the door.
In short, no, it’s not a bad thing, yes, it worked in “Kill Bill”, Tarantino should aim to make this as a single masterpiece…
