Inglorious Bastards Details

Tarantino's thoughts on the direction he wants his next film - Inglorious Bastards - to go:
"When I eventually make my World War II movie, Inglorious Bastards, it will use Robert Aldrich's The Dirty Dozen and a lot of those late-'60s/early-'70s epic war movies as a starting-off point - pictures like Where Eagles Dare.

"More so even than Kill Bill - it will be my true spaghetti Western-influenced film, but set in Nazi-occupied France instead of the Old West. I see it as a time when you had these no-man's lands in Europe that really did resemble the Western landscapes of Sergio Leone [director of the Clint Eastwood 'Dollars' trilogy]."

GO QT

Y'know... I was skeptical about casting Sandler (as the rumours go) but after seeing the work that he was capable of in Punch-Drunk Love (sadly it was too intelligent and arty for the Sandler fans and Sandler kept the P.T. Anderson fans away), which, admittedly, was crafted for him and created a universe entirely based around him, I think he might really be able to do a good job in this. Who knows, this could be an amazing turn for him.

Leone's Dollar's trilogy is bad ass and incredibly stylish. If Tarantino pays homage to Leone by fusing a WWII epic with Spaghetti Western....look out. It's incredible how Tarantino (the film roladex that he is) is able to draw on all these genre's and still remain originary.

man oh man. I barely know anything about this movie, but i'm already getting excited! QT is doin' a war movie? I was concerned at first.. but it's a new angle in the increasing amount of genre's the director is embracing (and mixing together). After seeing Kill Bill I was heavily pleased at QT's admiration towards the fusing of kung-fu and western films. And after reading that there will be spaghetti-western influences in Inglorious Bastards , i'm very very stoked. The cast already looks incredible. Michael Madison is one of my favorite actors. He has just an incredible presence in movies by simply squinting his eyes in the menacing way that we've all come to know. I was skeptical of sandler at first. I'm not really a fan of the re-hashed SNL characters he's been using in his movies, or his pop-culture status. But i give him credit for his acting capability in Punch-drunk love and i think he'll work great for the film as possible comic relief in certain scenes since theres no doubt QT can write a wise-cracking, foul mouthed character. But anyway, i apologize for the length of this post and i cant wait to hear more on this movie!

Are you kidding? Every movie Sandler is in contains a universe entirely based around him. I, for one, would like to see Sandler in a serious-type dramatic role (with the Tarantino lines and story). I thought he was great in Punch-Drunk Love and The Wedding Singer. Don't really care for some of his grown-up-child fantasies though like Mr. Deeds or Little Nicky. I did enjoy how Nicky had a "Who's Who" of Tarantino films in the cast: Harvey Keitel, Patricia Arquette, and even QT himself.
Tarantino's buddy Steve Buscemi is in nearly every Sandler film. Yes, I could see this working.

So, is he the movie equivalent of a cover band and the medium allows him to get away with it(with his own style and flare).-I hope so, because it's all be done, I know it, he knows it, and well I do the same thing pretty much with my films!

You are not the biggest fan or the one who understands it the most, and neither am I. Well, at least one of the references was in Kill Bill Vol. 1, where Black Mamba is talking to Vernita Green. She talks about getting even with Green, something like:

"No...to be completely even, I'd kill you...go upstairs, kill your daughter...then wait for your doctor husband to come home and kill him. Then I think we'd be pretty square."

When she says the word "square" she does this hand motion, tracing out a square, which goes back to a similar scene in Pulp Fiction (you may all remember it by the dotted line that followed her hands). I dunno if that's truly a reference, but it was a similarity that came to my mind.

BTW, I read something about when Elle Driver is reading the info about Black Mambas to Budd, and goes off on a tangent about the word "gargantuan". Apparently, that's a reference to an old monster movie that QT liked called "War of the Gargantuans". I had seen the movie a long time ago...it was fun, in a sort of campy way. Worth a rent.

To all those who doubt or question any of Tarintino's casting, or creativity issues should shut the hell up. Tarintino has a knack for casting actors you could never see in a certain role, and win them Oscars. In Kill Bill alone he resurected the careeers of David Carradine and Daryl Hannah, not to mention Travolta in Pulp Fiction. Also what he does take from old Westerns, Kung Fu films, etc. is purely out of respect for what came before him, not because of a lack of creativity. On the subject of Inglorious Bastards, those who think the war film will be driven by something other than abstract diologue need to quit kidding themselves. No matter what genre Tarintino tackles, he will put his own marvellous spin on it, enhancing it for our viewing pleasure (by the way I did hear rumors of Tarintino actually making a Western after Inglorious Bastards etc. wraps up). And in Tarintino's so called "hiatus" between Jackie Brown and Kill Bill 1+2, he did in fact write three separate scripts in relation to "Inglorious Bastards," whether or not they are three volumes or three unrelated WWII occurances with the same actors is unknown. Already cast is Madsen as "Babe," and I'm pretty sure Sandler is a shoe in, along with those will most likely be the usuals Harvy Keitel, Forster, Buchemi, Rockwell, perhaps Samuel L., or Chistopher Walken? Walken has plenty of war movie expiriance (The Deer Hunter). And Tarintino somehow sneeks Sammy into every one of his films. Casting Bo Svenson as an homage is certainly a strong possibility. And don't think because he used Thurma as the Bride (Beatrix Kido), that she is out of the question. She is afterall "his actress." Those above who suggested Jude Law or Johnny Depp as Tarintino actors, I have to say I disagree. But someone I do see as a potentially GREAT Tarintino actor, is the man who starred opposite of Depp in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," Benicio Del Torro. Del Torro is not only a great character actor, but I'm positive he could be superb in a diologue driven movie. Especially a war movie like Ingloious Bastards. Any way that Inglorious Bastards is casted or shot, it will simply turn out another Tarintino masterpeice. The anticipation I had in the months leading up to Kill Bill 1+2, will be greatly surpassed by my exitement for a Tarintino film like none of us have ever seen before. Have faith in Quentin. To quote an earlier postee "Inglorious Bastards is already the greatest war movie ever made"(With perhaps the exception of Apocolypse Now). As Michael Madsen (Budd) so eloquently said. "Well we'll just see. Won't we."
