Quentin Tarantino Presents 'Hero'
trailer for 'Hero' has been released, and looks pretty good. Hero [IMDB] is a Jet Li movie thats actually a couple of years old that Miramax has picked up for US distribution.
The reason I mention it here is that they are actually promoting the movie by making it 'presented by Quentin Tarantino' - in some lame attempt to capitalize on the vague similarities of this film with Kill Bill.
The movie itself looks decent enough, I'm just not a big fan of this kind of forced cross-promotion.
UPDATE: The poster for Hero is now available.

It's truly a remarkable movie, better than Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. He only presents this because Miramax tries to make a pretty penny off stuff that Tarantino bastardizes.

well he pushed miramax to get it released in US theaters, same as he did for Iron Monkey which is also a kick ass flick. Presents has nothing to do with the films creation. i am GLad QT got it here in the US so i can see it on the big screen.

The real shame is that Miramax cut 20 minutes out of it.

I've actually seen the movie, on a dvd I bought in Chinatown and I heared that the theatrical release would have more seens in it. Regardless, it is a great movie, very beautiful, with a great story reminiscent of Rashomon.

I heard that the only reason his name is on it is because Miramax said they would leave the 20 minutes in if he let them use his name

I just saw the trailer for the first time on Comedy Central, and the first thing I did when I heard "presented by Quentin Tarantino" was check this web site for the skinny. I was wondering how a Tarantino film could have slipped past me without me noticing... Thanks for the info! (Also, if there's any ego boost associated with being the first place I check when I hear "Tarantino", um, you're welcome?)

Like Shaggy says, Tarantino only pushed for it to have a domestic release: it's not some lame attempt at a Kill Bill cross-over promotion. I don't really care if his name is on it, because if it weren't for Tarantino, we wouldn't be seeing this movie at all, at least not in its full, un-cut glory.

okay, heres the deal, hero has been out for a while. and it is related to tarantino in a BIG way. check out imdb.com and take a gander at tarantino's profile. theres a new entry, he is the PRODUCER of hero
so this means that he probably is fronting good money so it can get advertised and played in mainstreamt theatres so that we all can see what he thinks is a high quality movie.
they're not doing a quick cash in, they must do this for every producer, like jerry bruckheimer and steven speilburg. he's a producer so he gets name space on the trailer. nothing to get angry about

Tarantino is not listed as the producer. From the IMDB site:
"Miramax, the distributor, apparently cut out 20 minutes from the movie because they found that part to be "too Asian and confusing" for western audiences. Then-Miramax honcho Harvey Weinstein made a deal with Quentin Tarantino that he'd release the film uncut if Tarantino would allow a "Quentin Tarantino Presents" tag at the beginning of the film. Tarantino agreed."

Not only that, but IMDB is NOT an authoritive source. It's a great resource, and I love it, but it is chock full of errors and rumors and should never be taken at face value.

I heard that Tarantino himself bought the north american distribution rights, and just needed miramax to actually distribute the film to theatres. But I heard that from a friend, and if you knew that friend you would probably give this information a fifty/fifty chance of being correc at best.

I went to see the movie last night due to the QT marketing ploy or whatever you want to call it. I waited through the entire credit roll and there was no mention of Quentin Tarantino anywhere, producer or otherwise. For what its worth, I'm glad f'in miramax tricked me into seeing it.

It's funny how sticking his name on the movie worked -- my g/fs 17 year old was convinced that Hero was DIRECTED by Tarantino after seeing the trailer and other stuff on TV. Of course, watching the movie would quickly dispell any illusions of Tarantino being involved.

I loved Hero but there was no need for Tarantino to stick his nose in.
I would have gone and seen it anyway.
