Onion AV Interviews David Carradine
Another interesting interview with David Carradine [thanks to Evan for the link]
Onion AV: Do you see Kill Bill as one film?
David Carradine: Yeah, it's one long film. Back before they split it into two parts, it was one film, and that's how you should think about it. And I don't think it will take very long—you'll be seeing it that way, because there are enough Tarantino fans who want to see it that way, and all you need to do is remove the credits in the middle. It holds together. Wham, it's a three-and-a-half-hour epic fucking masterpiece of exploitation moviemaking. That's what he calls it. He'll never tell you that what he's actually doing is giving himself the ability to be a great director like David Lean or somebody like that. He hides. He's very subversive, right? All the techniques available, moments of great beauty and great terror in this picture, particularly if you see it as one picture, you see that it flows. Everyone says that Part Two is a much different picture. Well, if you look at it together, you'll see that it flows together. It doesn't just jump. That's the way he designed it. He wanted everybody to think that it was just a simple action movie, and be plunged into this tragic love story that has a lot of the feeling of Sergio Leone, but also has the feeling of Shakespeare.

Tarantino Action Figure
Tarantino 'Exhausted'
The original release date for Kill Bill Volume 2 was pushed back because Tarantino said he needed a break, and now he's decided he needs another break - cancelling his promo tours for V2 in Europe, Asia, and Australia due to exhaustion.

Vega Brothers, Again
Maybe I ought to read the magazines I get sent to me. Apparently, in the copy of Rolling Stone I liked to previously, and which now sits to my right - still unread - Tarantino confirms there will be a Vega Brothers movie [thanks to CerebralAsasin for the link] and it may even come before Inglorious Bastards.
Also, since we're on the topic of potential future Tarantino films, Anne has set up an online petition to get Tarantino to make Casino Royale - the Bond film that I mentioned back in October of 2003
It's a sequel to both Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, actually, it's a sequel and it's a prequel. It's the Vega Brothers, played by Michael Madsen and John Travolta. I have been trying to do it for years, and the more time I take, the older these two guys get. But I've come up with an idea that won't much matter how much they age....the magic of movies. It's going to be great. It'll be funny, and these guys are so great, alright, they're going to be like two oversized mob-men fighting over the last bowl of pasta, that we can't go wrong. It's just going to be John and Michael, and I hope to make this my next movie. We're laying down the pipework for it now."Now, before we all get our panties in a bunch with excitement, lets remember that QT has been kicking around this idea for the better part of 5 years now. Plus, there's this story from ComingSoon where Tarantino himself completely contradicts the Rolling Stone info.
In an interview with a local radio station here in San Antonio (Mix 96.1, The Woody Show) yesterday, Quentin stated that yes he had an idea for the Vega Brothers but it's not really moving and wouldn't be his next film. He said that even though he had an idea he didn't have a story, that it's not worth doing without a good story, and that there won't be a story until he gets really inspired to write one.

Did you know Tarantino is/was doing television ads in Japan for Perfect TV - a DirecTV clone?
Kill Bill 2 Violence Still An Issue
Overseas for the London premiere of Kill Bill Volume 2, the cast gets raked over the coals for the violence in the movie. I'd have thought that the media would have gotten all these questions out of the way when Volume 1 was released. At least the media here in the US didn't have a fit about it this time.
Also, the Daily Telegraph has an interview/article with David Carradine up today. They call him a 'C-grade Legend'. Ouch.

From reader Natalie:
I'm amazed at your website, and always talk about it to my friends who are also die-hard Tarantino's fans as well. Great work. Looking forward for this Friday's opening :DThe story about the interview is here. Also, you can actually watch the video of the interview - its just over 4 minutes long. Pretty interesting stuff.
Anyway, David Carradine was on CityTV last night here in Toronto. Yeah. Here he talks about his role, his respect towards Quentin.

The positive reviews of Kill Bill V2 continue to roll in. I'm going to see it at a matinee on Saturday.
CNN's Paul Clinton calls it, "sharp, spendid".
Filmrot's review:
CNN's Paul Clinton calls it, "sharp, spendid".
Ultimately, "Kill Bill Vol. 2" is an astounding conclusion to Tarantino's epic tale, and Uma Thurman is nothing short of magnificent.
Filmrot's review:
Excellent dialogue, retro yet inventive visuals, superb dramatic performances and an amazing soundtrack make Kill Bill Volume 2 a must see.

Daryl Hannah Acting Odd
Daryl Hannah was acting so strange at the Kill Bill Volume 2 premiere thatpolice gave her a sobriety test before letting her drive home. Hannah claims she gets very nervous at these type of events as decided to go to the event 'in character' as Elle Driver.
She says, "I usually just race into theatres at premieres, but this time I thought I would walk in like Elle and would walk in, with her cocky attitude and stuff.
"So I went through the press line and I was like standing on my car and doing kung fu and giving them the finger or whatever.

The DVD for Volume 1 is officially for sale today! Order it, go buy it, hack your neighbors head off and steal his copy. Whatever you have to do, just go get it. (except that part about your neighbor - don't try that).

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has some major plans for his latest opus, Kill Bill. While promoting the second volume of the series, opening theatrically on April 16th, Tarantino revealed that he plans to recut both films together for a special theatrical release laterin the year. "We did a special version [of Volume 1] for Japan that's only been shown in Japan and Hong Kong, and I kept the rights to that," Tarantino said. "I'll put the Japanese version together [with Volume 2] like I would if it was one complete movie, and then I'll release that throughout America and Europe in arthouse engagements."
Tarantino also promises more extensive DVD plans for the revenge films. "I'm going to do a special collector's edition of both of them once I'm finished with both of them," he said. Also in the talking phase, Tarantino is considering the possibility of releasing stand-alone supplemental discs. "One of the things that I saw that I liked... was what the American Pie guys did with their 'Beneath the Crust' documentaries. I want to do the same thing [for Kill Bill]."
Tarantino To Guest Judge on 'Idol'
Not what I would have expected from Quentin, but he's apparently a big American Idol fan and is going to get to be a guest judge for 'movie theme night'. The episode was supposed to air Tuesday night, but with President Bush's press conference, I'm not sure when its going to air.
1st Negative Review Of Kill Bill 2
Well, its the 1st negative review that I've seen anyhow. The New Yorker has a long, negative review of Kill Bill 2 (spoiler warning). Here's an excerpt:
Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill Vol. 2” is a shapeless mess, but at least it’s not as monotonous as “Kill Bill Vol. 1.” It has some landscape and some odd characters, whereas the earlier movie consisted mostly of sliced-cranium combat scenes and lacquered-glitz interiors and mock emotions like “anger” and “grief” that linked the fight episodes the way a thin string might hold a set of glittering flea-market jewels. “Kill Bill Vol. 1” was sequenced, but it wasn’t really plotted; it had faces, bodies, and limbs (often severed), but it didn’t have characters; it had spasmodic action but nothing approaching dramatic life.

Kill Bill .5?
To go along with Tarantino's talk of a sequel to Kill Bill in 15 years, he's also floating the idea of an animated prequel to Kill Bill:
... focus on the three men - pimp Estebian Vihaio and martial arts masters Hattori Hanzo and Pei MaiThis same little IMDB article mentions that Quentin will be directing a portion of Robert Rodriguez's next film, Sin City. In order for that to happen, Rodriguez actually had to resign from the Director's Guild because of an arcane rule about one director, one film. [Hat tip to Eric for the Rodriguez story]

Kill Bill 3?
This is how crazy rumors get started. Tarantino tells Entertainment Weekly he'll make a sequel to Kill Bill - in 15 years.
The star will be Vernita Green's (Vivica A. Fox's) daughter, Nikki (Ambrosia Kelley). I've already got the whole mythology: Sofie Fatale (Julie Dreyfus) will get all of Bill's money. She'll raise Nikki, who'll take on The Bride," he says. "Nikki deserves her revenge every bit as much as The Bride deserved hers. I might even shoot a couple of scenes for it now so I can get the actresses while they're this age."15 years? Why not just shoot it after Inglorious Bastards using a different, older, girl to play Nikki's part when she's all grown up? Could it be because he really doesn't intend to make a Volume 3? That'd be my guess.

Kill Bill V2 Trailer!
Here's the new Kill Bill V2 trailer in Quicktime format. And here's the Real Player version from Yahoo!
I'm suprised at the spoiler level contained in this trailer. We see The Bride's daughter (she's even identified as such) and we see The Bride being buried alive.
UPDATE: The trailer is also available at the Quicktime site, though its still labeled as a 'Teaser' currently.

How David Carradine Became Bill
Michael Madsen recounts an interesting story about how and why Tarantino fired Warren Beatty and hired David Carradine to play Bill in Kill Bill.
In fact, he (Madsen) remembers going to a dinner party that producer Lawrence Bender held for Beatty so that he could meet the actor and "hang out and feel if we were comfortable with each other, seeing that we had to be brothers and all." The meeting went well and about three days later Madsen got a phone call from the director.
"He goes, 'Well, I just fired Warren.' And I said, 'Oh my God. You did?' And he said, 'Yeah, yeah.' He said, 'He doesn't understand what the movie's about and I'm not going to go through this. He doesn't understand what the movie's about, he doesn't want to do it and I don't want him to do it,'" Madsen recalls.
"I said, 'Well who in the name of god is going to play Bill?' And he goes, 'Are you ready?' And I said, 'Yeah, I'm ready g**d**n it. Who is it?' And he said, 'David Carradine.' And I remember that I was completely and totally stunned. I mean it so took me off guard. I wouldn't of thought of David in a million years. At the same time I realized that it made more sense than anything," says Madsen. "And the first time I saw David I knew that he could handle it and obviously he did, because he's wonderful in the picture."

Hollywood Reporter Reviews Kill Bill V2
The Hollywood Reporter has yet another glowing review of Kill Bill Volume 2.
UPDATE: Yet another good review from Roger Friedman. [thanks to Gregory for the link]
"Kill Bill-Vol. 2" puts to shame doubts entertained about aesthetic strategies or structural imbalance provoked by "Kill Bill-Vol. 1."
Now that the entirety of Quentin Tarantino's epic revenge melodrama is on view, "Kill Bill" emerges as a brilliant, invigorating work, one to muse over for years to come. ... Here is a movie that not only pays homage to a host of action-movie styles but rigorously explores its pulp fiction for visceral truths that link culture and cinema. Here's a movie that both academics bundled in film theories and teenagers on hot dates will find supercool.
Box office-wise, the sky's the limit. Not only will "Vol. 2" enjoy a hugely successful theatrical run, but many of us will eventually demand the bifurcated sections of "Kill Bill" be conjoined into a single showing both in theaters and later in home entertainment. For what once felt out of balance now plays in perfect harmony. What once seemed to lack humor or subtext now has plenty.

Future Tarantino Movie Rumors
CHUD has a little article [thanks for the link Jango] today that repeats 2 rumors I've heard before, including a Tarantino - James Bond rumor I had mentioned here previously. The other tidbit that hasn't been repeated here is that Tarantino is thinking of a way to continue the Kill Bill franchise, whether it be a prequel focused on Bill or a sequel focused on Vernita Green's daughter.
Yeah, I’ve been thinking about revisiting the story in a couple of ways,” said the director. “I’ve been thinking about doing it as an anime feature that would tell the entire origin of Bill.” Another possibility, Tarantino said, would be a life story of Nikki, the young girl whose mother was killed by the Bride in Vol 1.

Ebert and Roeper Kill Bill V2 Review MP3
Via reader Elton:
is 2 thumbs way up. Roeper says that this film is so good it increases his appreciation for Volume I. Roeper also says that if the film were to be released together, it would be worthy of consideration for Best Picture. Obviously, this is very good news.
Runtime for Volume 2 is being reported as 137 minutes, which puts the total film at roughly 4 hours and 11 minutes long.
I'm actually more pumped up to see this half of the film than I was the 1st time around.
I stayed up late last night to watch their advance review on CBS. They both were in total agreement that it deserves two thumbs way up and Egbert said that though Volume 1 was not on his top 10 list last year, Volume 2 will definitely be on this year's. He cited things like clever dialogue from Michael Madsen, and I'm trying to remember what else but again, it was late =P Oh I remember he referenced a technique in Pulp Fiction where there was stuff you didn't see but from how they described it you can imagine it in your head. He also said something about a choice that Madsen gave The Bride between hairspray and a flashlight, but I didnt read the second half of the script so I don't know what that's about. He said a lot of good things about it and how it makes you appreciate the first one more and that you don't need to have seen volume 1 to fully enjoy it.The bottom line
