Competition For Inglorious Bastards

If Quentin is still serious about making Inglorious Bastards his next film, he may want to get moving on the project ASAP. It looks like Joel Silver and Zak Penn are going to be re-making The Dirty Dozen.

Inglorious Bastards isn't the same film, but its similar enough that it could cause box office troubles if they both get released near the same time. And given the box office problems that GRINDHOUSE had, taking that risk might not be such a hot idea.

So Quentin, get moving!

Yeah, if this doesn't get his motor running on filming this thing, I just don't know what will.

What kind of worries me is that maybe this will cause IB to not be made at all. I'm sure that's a long shot, but it could happen. Then all we'd have to look forward to would be...nothing.

Yeah, no shit. Saw the Dirty Dozen last night on TCM and it's a sweet ride. I hope they don't annihilate it. Don't know what we need a remake of it for anyway.
C'mon Quentin, put down the pipe and get to work!

Why does everyone want to do a ww2 film? That era has been played to out for the last ten years. I'd much rather see QT do a Vietnam flick in the style of Full Metal Jacket or Apocolypse Now...I think the style and vibe he brings to his films would fit perfect for a Nam war flick.

i really wouldn't want to see a QT vietnam flick. i don't know...i just want to see something different from him. i know why people probably think about the drug angle in nam, and how that would fit QT perfectly, blah blah blah, but it just reminds me of how everybody thinks of pulp fiction when they think of QT.

he's made other movies, but everybody just goes right to pulp fiction.

but what do i know, all of my friends can't believe that i hated "platoon". oliver stone blows.

I agree, I couldn't even get through 15 minutes of Platoon.

WW2 is pretty played out; so is Nam. Hell, I'd rather see a movie on WW1 or the Civil War.

Quentin once talked about doing a Southern. Something to the effect of telling stories from American History that does not often get told in film. I'd love to see Quentin tackle some really serious subject matter. I know he has it in him.

if Quentin is to remake anything, it should be A Streetcar Named Desire. Michael Madsen would be perfect for Marlon Brando 's Stanley Kowalski character.

Why does QT have to get moving just because a stupid Dirty Dozen remake is being made? Its not going to be as good as the original or Inglorious Bastards. I can guarantee it. Also, Bastards may end up being a mini series on cable, not a 2 hour film. Its going to be a big epic.

I thought you were layin off al the message boards until kill bill came out on dvd pete?

And there's not a chance that it'll be a cable film: that's just qt thinkin out loud.

This isnt a message board. You leave comments. What do you care where/when I post? Are you my mother?

Theres not a chance it will be a on TV? How the hell do you know that? How do you get a 600 page script into one or even two films? Its not possible.

This is from the Tarantino.Info interview with QT:

"It's not quite three scripts. I can't quite go in the details right now of exactly what I'm gonna do with it, but I know exactly now what I'm gonna do with it. And, it was gonna be too long before, but now it's not too long... sorry to be so cryptic... but it's gonna be a big massive epic. That's all I can say. And I figured out how to do it but I can't reveal that right now."

Sebastian: At some point you said you wanted to do some TV, and then there was people saying well if he has three scripts, why doesn't he do a Band of Brothers, you know, like a mini series?

QT: I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up EXACTLY that way (laughs)"

So theres no chance thats gonna happen huh? Okay.

WWII movies are played out but Tarantino doing a WWII movie is going to be very different than any other war movie ever made especially any war movie made in the last twenty years. You know he's gonna pack it with a bunch of weird stuff and kick ass, throwaway pulpy dialogue that no one else can do. As for the Dirty Dozen re-make, eff that. I'm sick of people re-making great movies that anyone can get their hands on and still stand the test of time. A fifteen-year-old can appreciate the original without having DGI effects and having Bruce Willis and Collin Farrell in the lead roles. A movie doesn't have to be in your generation for you to enjoy it, the studios think so little of today's youth. They should re-make movies that had potential but sucked or old foreign movies that are hard to get. And as for rushing Tarantino, he could take as long as he feels like, I know it's frustrating but you don't want him to be like Woody Allen throwing out movies every year without really giving a damn and having half of them blow. And I'd like to concur with the gentleman who said Oliver Stone sucks. Oliver Stone is a total jackass.

As far as people having a problem with a TV miniseries or movie instead of a theatrical film, the way I see it is, movies are usually only in the theaters for a few months anyways and where do you end up watching them for the rest of their popular life?: ON TV.

So for me, Id much rather see a new 6 hour Tarantino WWII epic on cable TV over a 2 hour movie in the theater.

Now, if QT can get it made for theatrical release, Id love it even more but it just sounds too lengthy a story for that format.

[15] On Jul-12-2007, qwerty wrote:

I didnt say i had a problem with it happening i just said it wont be a mini series.

And as for qt's comments in that interview, he is legendary for saying things about future projects that never actually come to fruition. He thinks out loud and in public and people like pete take it as an announcement of some sort.

Pete, if youre mature you wont respond to my prodding and well just leave it at that: opinions differ, what can you do?

[16] On Jul-12-2007, Pete wrote:

If I was mature? Thats BS. You prod to get a reaction in the first place. If YOU were mature you wouldnt say things in a instigative way.

Im not going to stop giving my opinions or things I believe to not be offensive.

QT does say things that he doesnt always mean, but you cant say for 100% that IB won't be a mini series. Its a possibility and actually makes sense. Look at stuff like Das Boot.

I think it makes sense too. We already saw how people feel about 3 + hour movies when Grindhouse was released. Its unlikely they'll want to sit in the theater for something thats probably even longer than that. Maybe QT will do another Kill Bill type thing and release two 2 1/2 hour movies or something. Any new QT is fine by me.

what does that tell you, Lee Marvin and Robert Aldrich must be turning in their graves

Inglorious Bastards will be an awesome film even though it has the same plot as the dirty dozen but you know tarantino will more it to it can't wait
