saiaf - er, have you seen the script of this movie yet? it's pretty damn boring so maybe the two "boring" photos are appropriate after all......

Dave...if it wasn't what you expected that's fair. But do you really think its a bad film? Or a boring one for that matter? I mean if one were to read Pulp Fiction or even Jackie Brown, they might find it slow. But its Tarantino's execution that's so brilliant. So new assholes or not, do you really think its boring?

trust me - as a huge fan of QT from the beginning:
it's not boring.

Ok - maybe yer right - maybe it won't be boring. he does the style thing quite well. and it is a different take on a well known genre. Thats what he does best. I rate Pulp Fiction and jackie Brone as his best work - mature interesting and very different movies. Res. dogs was good too - bank robbery movie with no actual robbery. so the idea of a guys on a mission movies with no typical gunfights is a pretty good idea. The tavern basement scene with the main shootout is pretty good too.
Perhaps I was a bit too hard on the script. Thinking about it it's not boring or bad - I guess Im just annoyed with a few things having to do with WWII. Im a big history buff and esp. WWII. When I think about why I was annoyed with the script, I guess it comes down to two things:
1. the hipster pop culture tone of a movie dealing with the Holocaust, ie- showing jews being killed and scenes of Kews scalping germans - I guess the seriousness of the subject matter in a Tatantino type world bothers me.
2. The ending. I can't get past history being f*cked with so much.
So yeah, yer right , it probably won't be boring. I was wrong.

Well actually it makes sense that you say that, because people who enjoy history and the study of it actually have trouble with movies. But there are a lot of ...what's it called...3rd dimension history buffs? Don't know, just made that up.
There's a show called FIREFLY (movie made into SERENITY), maybe you have seen it dave, its really good, but it does that whole "what if history happened like this plot".
Now if someone were to read LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, I am pretty sure you've seen that, it would be a tough read. Especially since its a drama, comedy about the holocaust. Its execution was done perfectly well.
So glad we're on the same page because I kinda got worried there when a Tarantino fan said the word boring haha, just wanted to hear your elongated opinion. Thanks.

yeah, I had some problems with life is beautiful but on another level, I can see why it was made the way it was....I dunno, holocaust movies are just tricky to me. I always seem to like the more realistc ones - the gray zone and the Counterfeiters are two that are really good to me.
but since we're talking about tarantino's movies.... could a reasonable argument be made that Jackie Brown is possibly his best? Everytime I see it, I just think how mature a movie it is - great characters and very realistic..I guess I have a weakness for believibilty..I guess thats why I dont care for QT's last two as much - kill Bill was more a comedy though so I still liked it. Even Death proof was not bad since it was a parody of bad 70s movies......

...one more thing - I guess I was really hoping Inglorious basterds would be like pulp fiction - more serious and edgy. but the script reads almost like a comedy - it doesn't seem dark enough - the treatment of dark deeds seems light to me....bashing people's brains in, scalping, etc. but I guess the execution (no pun intended) could make a big difference....

Thats the thing reading a script. A gun fight may seem tame on paper but when you got QT directing and his great dialogue, it's bound to be great!

that's where i'm at dave. the script is the script, nothing more. i've read some of his other scripts AFTER i watched the movies, and it seemed to follow the movie that i saw perfectly.
however, while reading something that i had already seen, it was easy for me to fill in any gaps that existed in the script with the footage that i had seen in my head.
i agree - this will probably be a tricky movie to pull off. but we'll (and that goes for all of us, myself included) just have to wait and see what happens. with it.
p.s. all of this discussion makes me want the boards back. anything we can do about that brett?

Yeah discussion boards would be so great. I mean come on, how hard can it be to make?

What's boring isnt these two pictures, it's the speed at which this site gets updated.
