Tarantino and Hal Jordan? What might have been...

Having recently discussed what comic or superhero movie we (and by we I mean us...you and me and him and her) would like to see QT add to his list of creations we now get (straight from the horses mouth no less) the info that our man was offered a shot at putting together Green Lantern a while back. You can check out this little nugget over at Comicvine.com.

Weinstein Co. Buys Kill Buljo Rights

As much as most of you hated the idea of the Kill Buljo parody, I'm sure you'll be equally thrilled to hear that Weinstein Co has bought the US rights to the film. Probably not coming to theaters - it'll be a straight to DVD release.

The DVD for Election was released this past week. This is a Tartan Asia Extreme release that features a quote from Quentin on the front cover calling it:

I haven't seen anything beyond the trailer (see video after the jump), but it looks interesting.

Inglorious Bastards DVD!

The wait is over for Inglorious Bastards, its gone straight to DVD! Just kidding.

This is the DVD to the film that provides some inspiration for the upcoming Tarantino film. This is obviously where the title comes from, but the actual story line is not the same. [via TwitchFilm]

Competition For Inglorious Bastards

If Quentin is still serious about making Inglorious Bastards his next film, he may want to get moving on the project ASAP. It looks like Joel Silver and Zak Penn are going to be re-making The Dirty Dozen.

Inglorious Bastards isn't the same film, but its similar enough that it could cause box office troubles if they both get released near the same time. And given the box office problems that GRINDHOUSE had, taking that risk might not be such a hot idea.

So Quentin, get moving!

Tarantinos NYC

If you liked the idea of the Tarantinotes, but were disappointed because they were based in the UK, then you'll love the Tarantinos NYC.

They are a cover band that plays nothing but songs from Tarantino's films - and they are based in New York. Also check out their MySpace page.

Tarantino Archives Database Problems

Just an FYI, the Tarantino Archives (tarantino.info) has experience some serious database problems that has taken them offline until they can be fixed. They've set up a temporary blog at tarantinoarchives.blogspot.com to keep folks informed as to their status. Here's hoping they are up and running again soon.

Bad Taste Bears Tarantino Event

Everyone's favorite Tarantino-themed band, the Tarantinotes are going to be playing at the Bad Taste Bears Tarantino Event on March 31st.

The event is to celebrate the launch of Killed Bill. There are only 4,000 of the yellow being created, and only 700 of the pictured limited edition black version. There is also going to be a great looking Tarantino sketch book available that I'd love to get my hands on.

Check out the event website for all the details.

Incidentals

Some Regal Theatres in CA are doing flash-back screenings that include Pulp Fiction & Reservoir Dogs. Rare opportunity to see them on the big screen again if you live close.

Its Tarantino Week over at The Flux. They are reviewing Tarantino movies all week long. They've already got reviews up for Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction - neither of which got very good marks. Go give 'em some hell!

QT Talks Halloween, Evil Dead, Jason

Fangoria has a short interview with Quentin up (with a great photo of QT in character from Planet Terror).

Surprisingly though, the topic isn't GRINDHOUSE, but rather Evil Dead, Halloween and Friday the 13th. He was approached to at least discuss doing an Evil Dead remake (he's not), and you probably remember the Friday the 13th rumors from 2005.

But I had never heard that he nearly had a hand in making Halloween 6.

"That was weird," Tarantino recalls. "It was one of those things where Scottie was bringing me along and I was the one who put two and two together and come up with at least the first couple of scenes."

The filmmaker recognized that it would be up to him to pick up from the end of HALLOWEEN 5, where Michael Myers is freed from jail by the now-infamous man in black. "I thought hands-f**kin'-down the best part of HALLOWEEN II was the first 15 minutes, when Michael is trying to get out of suburbia. It was very BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN: The monster is now stuck in the village and the scenes are of everyone he bumps into until he gets the f**k out. Well, that's what Michael does in part two. He's going through the backyards and going in through houses and someone's kitchen and killing everyone along the way. That shit was magnificent; then when it got to the hospital, it totally fell apart.

Jet Li Talks Kung Fu Films, QT

Jet Li talks about whats different when Tarantino makes a kung-fu film, vs. someone from the Far East.
Q: More western directors like Quentin Tarantino are doing Chinese martial arts films. What is the difference between a martial arts film directed by a Westerner and someone from China?

A: Quentin Tarantino is in love with Asian movies and martial arts movies. He’s a specialist, a genius, he knows a lot of things but even in movies made in the States, the director may be from the States but the choreographer or action director is still Asian. It’s just a different angle to see the same thing.

QT 'Homages' On YouTube

What YouTube is really for - a crude remake of Reservoir Dogs in old school Mortal Kombat style.
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3

And then we've got Dick Fiction, wherein Dick Cheney takes the part of Vincent Vega.

And finally, Spacehopper Dogs, again a different spin of Reservoir Dogs. They got off to a bad start by giving 2 different guys the Mr. Blue nickname.

Tarantinotes

This site made my whole day: Tarantinotes.

They are a cover band that plays nothing but songs from Tarantino's films. And they do it while in costume as characters from Tarantino's films.

The site has three audio clips and loads of pictures of the band on stage. If I wasn't already married, these guys would definately be at the top of my list for the reception.

Tarantino's Early Influences

The Independent has an article about Italian B-movie director Fernando Di Leo - who happens to be an early influence for Quentin Tarantino.
Di Leo's films are B movies par excellence: garish, intricately plotted, ultra-violent stories about pimps and petty gangsters, told with plenty of attitude. There is an intensity and formal ingenuity here that you rarely find in more prestigious (and expensive) pictures.
Only a couple of Di Leo's films are available from Amazon, including: Slaughter Hotel and Mister Scarface (w/ Jack Palance).

Madsen Doing Literacy PSAs

Michael Madsen recorded a literacy public service announcement with Deejay Ra earlier this month. Madsen is apparently going to do some additional educational promo stuff with the recent release of his book: The Complete Poetic Works of Michael Madsen, Vol. I: 1995-2005.
Recording an exclusive high school and campus radio PSA in addition to planning new educational-themed initiatives for his latest poetry collection and audiobook, Madsen now joins fellow Tarantino alumni Robert Forster and American literary legend Elmore Leonard as a supporter of Juneja's 'Hip-Hop Literacy' campaign, encouraging movie and music themed books to students uninterested in reading as alternative literacy developing methods in the midst of entertainment media's strongest digital age. Forum Is Gone

I've had to remove the forum due to continued security breaches on the server. Both the script I was using (PHPBB) and PHP itself were recently discovered to have major security flaws and my entire server (13 websites) was trashed by a hacker because of it (twice within the last month). I had backups of everything so haven't lost any data, but I'm not willing to continue to run the risk of having the server compromised for the convenience of the forum. So, until I can find a solution that doesn't threaten the rest of the content located on this server, I'm killing the forum.

Russian TV Etc.

Couple of odd items for you today:

First Quentin is going to be making an appearance in a Russian TV show that revolves around some people stealing one of his movies.

Also, 'The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi' and 'Sonatine' has been released as a double DVD set with a prologue & epilogue by Tarantino himself for the 'Sonatine' disc.
